Introductory Paragraph (Power) - Lord of the Flies
The quote is "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power." This quote means that people should not be given power because they can't handle the responsibility. I believe that this quote is right children are often wanting power when they cannot handle it the way adults can. You can see this in the lord of the flies by William Golding. In this book the boys argue over power on the island and constantly fight over power. They don't have any adults to tell them what to do and so they fight to try and survive on the island.
Introductory Paragraph (FATE) - Night by Elie Wiesel
Isabel Allende once said, "Heart is what drives us and determines our fate." This means that what happens to a person isn't chance but instead is directed by one's strength and ability to persevere. The quote by Allende is true, because the choices a person makes or his or her determination to overcome obstacles can change the outcome of a situation. This can be clearly seen in Night by Elie Wiesel. In this memoir, Wiesel creates his own fate by remaining with his father at all costs, listening to his elders when given choices, and showing extraordinary emotional and physical strength when put to tests by the Nazi soldiers.
